If you want to find out where someone is employed, you can use search engines to see the name of the company, its address, etc… However, it’s not always possible to uncover the hidden details as it’s supposed to be with Google. For that reason, I tested the best ways to discover where someone works online in a few easy steps. So, you don’t have to browse Internet directories and walk through hundreds of pages to get the information you need.
8 Ways to find someone’s workplace
Before starting the search, I recommend collecting as many details as you can about that individual. If you know their email address, for example, that could easily help you discover their workplace details. Also, their phone number can make the search faster, especially when that person has added contact details under their page online.
1. People search sites
If you’re in the United States, there is an easy way to locate someone’s job easily. People search engines like TruthFinder run online background checks with a few clicks. So, you type the full name of the person, and the system may show you their current job position and the company that they worked for with the associated address.
To find information about someone’s work, log in to your online account with such tools. Then, locate the tab “Job & education” or “Business”, depending on the app you use. But in general, these dashboard tabs show the data linked to people’s names. And they can show you the name of the company they work for with employment history and more.
These search tools gather data from public records and other databases. That means accurate details are found using real websites and social media. TruthFinder, for example, can provide you with lots of details in one search report that you can download in PDF format. So, you may want to use that search report later to verify the information.
Some details that you can find with paid tools include:
- The company name and in what industry
- Job title
- Address of that company
- Date of each position…
- Home address
- Contact numbers
- Social profiles
- Possible photos
- Ownership records
If you want to go further and you want to search for someone’s professional background, use this tool or the following services with other search inputs.
2. Reverse phone lookup
Many reverse phone lookup tools like NumberGuru have dedicated areas in the search reports for people’s jobs. So, you type a phone number, preferably a cell phone, and then, let the scan start. Once that’s done, you can have a look at the job and education tab.
So, there could be the name of the company that person is actually engaged with or other previous positions. In addition, some of these programs show the names of possible family members linked to that person’s mobile number or name. And that’s an extra piece of information to check whether people lie about their degree and name or not.
Some phone lookup tools are free, while others require a subscription. But if you want accurate results, try the paid options instead. They have up-to-date databases and more data.
3. Email Search
In reality, reverse email lookup is a powerful method when it comes to finding out someone’s employer in minutes. That’s valid, especially when that email ID ends with a domain name that represents the company behind it. For example, if you have an email like “james@boeing.com”, then that tells you that “James” works for the Boeing company. As a result, when you type that specific email in the search bar of a reverse email lookup, you can discover the exact job position of that same person, along with where they’re on the map.
Also, this search trick can help you discover the actual job position and workplace address of an old college you worked with. In that case, use Google and type the name of that previous coworker, followed by any old company they worked for.
For instance, that person called “James” who worked with you on “Boeing”, may have another job with a similar company. Thus, their old email can show you their current place of work and the company they work for.
4. Username lookup
This is not always a search method to try if you don’t know any details about the person, except their name. However, if you come across any social profile of the guy, copy the username they have there. That username could easily help you uncover the workplace address behind it on the map. The only disadvantage here is that it only works with exact-match usernames.
Even Google can help with this, but I prefer using tools that are specialized in reverse username lookup. Most people search tools like the above method still work for this. So, instead of the name, type the username and see the possible work address of the person behind it.
5. Use social media networks
If you get any social media profiles of anyone with the above tools, try to see where they work through social media apps. Facebook, for example, is the ideal place to locate people’s places of work if you have their account details. That includes any name or profile link you received by message or in other ways. Once you’re in their social account on Facebook, click on the “About” tab. That will list the details about that user, such as their education, current job, and the company’s address.
Now, if you can’t see the street address of the company that someone works for, try Google or Yahoo. Add the business name there and see if they have a website or a social page. After that, find the address behind that employer on the map.
Also, you can get an advantage of Google Maps. Just type the name of that business, and Google will show you the place on the map. If the guy works for a small business, that company’s address won’t be that hard to locate on the map. However, if that business is a big company with multiple headquarters and facilities, you’ll need to filter them by city.
Other social networks like Twitter or Instagram can help you track down the workplace address of a friend you know, for example. What you can find on Twitter may not be available on Facebook. So, it’s always a good idea to diversify your search methods and combine them all together for verification.
6. Google search engine
Google is the first place to find out the workplace of a certain person by their name. You can add some hints to help Google show relevant results, but in general, you need just the full name. There is also the advanced search version of Google which filters unrelated results. Also, that lets you exclude places, names, or other parameters.

Also, to find out for which company someone works for, you may need to use Bing as it’s another good choice. Repeat the same search as the one with Google and look at the names. Once you find the exact name of that person, click on the URL from Bing or Google and visit their page. That page could be the website of the company where that person is working. They show the list of their top employees, like managers, directors, etc…
7. LinkedIn
LinkedIn is one of the best ways to discover where someone is employed. All you need is their full name. Because LinkedIn is a professional social network, it can show you the name of the company, previous jobs, actual posts, and even their colleagues. However, not everyone has a LinkedIn profile. So, try this search tactic first, and if you can’t find where that person is working, try the other options.
Now, because LinkedIn is a huge business social platform, you may find lots of profiles when you type the name of a specific person. For that reason, you need to filter those profiles to get the right one. To do that, make sure you use the search filter from the top of the screen on LinkedIn. That filter limits results by city, state, or by educational background words. So, if you know some details about the education or the degree of that person, type them in the right filter.

LinkedIn may show you the profiles of people, but when you want to read their details, you’ll have to sign in. But if you don’t have an account with them, create one. It’s free and easy.
The experience tab on LinkedIn can list the company details that someone is assisted with. Thus, there could be the name of the business, its location, city, etc…
8. Try a photo search
I used Social Catfish, and their reverse image lookup worked better than others. Basically, you add someone’s photos, and the tool shows you the possible profiles and pages of the person behind it. So, that profile comes with a job history, education info, and more.
Also, other image search engines may work for this type of online investigation. So, to determine where someone is employed, upload their photo to a search engine. After that, look for any mention of a workspace or actual job position in the search results.
Google Images, for example, is one of these trusted free tools you can try. However, remember that you should upload a clear photo, in which the person’s face is clearly visible. Otherwise, facial recognition algorithms won’t be able to distinguish between that person and others.

Remember that Google offers two ways to search by photo. You can upload one file from your local computer or phone. Or you can directly copy the image URL from other sites and add it there.
Other reverse picture search tools can help, but avoid those with lots of ads, as most of them won’t show any accurate details. Also, when searching with these photo lookup tools, try to choose only the profile with recent updates. That’s because, so many times, the results you see here might be outdated.
What if you can’t find any information?
This could happen; you tried so many ways to see where people live or work but without any hint. In this case, there are two things to do:
Hire a private investigator who can do that hard work for you. Many companies in the US have decades of experience in online investigations. So, one of their detectives can help you find that information.
The person you tried to investigate is not working currently or moved elsewhere. Also, that could mean they lied about their job and address. That happens many times when somebody tells you that they work in a specific industry, but the truth is that they are looking for a job. So, you don’t need to waste your time asking them for a CV or details, when they lie to you.
When you contact an investigator who will help you locate someone’s workplace, make sure you tell them the details they need. For example, provide them with the full name of that person without skipping the middle name if there is any. That small piece of information can make the search easy or hard. Also, try to give them some time, and not ask them for immediate results. Online investigations could take minutes, hours, or even days, depending on how that person is using websites.
Conclusion
Now, above are the best methods to find out where someone works. Make sure you try them as you need and always verify the name of the person you’d like to investigate. A simple spell issue can show you the details of another individual that’s completely different. Meanwhile, use Google to verify the accuracy of the details you discover about people and the address of their workspace.
I prefer using the first recommended method as it saves time and effort. Also, that can show you possible hidden details on social media or contact numbers. So, it’s not all about the place where a specific person works, but also, it’s a way to tell if they lie about their workplace.
